Whitehorse Part 2

It continues to be windy, with occasional rain showers and even some small hailstones. I'm still not sick, which is a good sign. I'm still enjoying my time here. During a day trip to Haines, I actually felt a bit homesick for Innsbruck because of the many mountains, all completely covered in snow. Crossing the border was also no problem at all.

This week there was a lot of work to do on the chicken coop: nailing on wall cladding, painting, moving cows to a different pasture, pulling weeds, and repairing farm machinery.

Highlights of the Week

  1. Day trip to Haines

  2. Painting the chicken coop

  3. Conversations with the younger coworkers

Similarities and Differences Between Yukon and Austria

Yukon

The Yukon covers around 482,000 km², making it almost six times larger than Austria. Despite its enormous size, only about 47,000 people live there, making it one of the least densely populated regions in the world.

Climate and Weather

The Yukon lies in the subarctic region and is known for its long, cold winters. Temperatures below -30°C are not uncommon. Summers are short but pleasant, with temperatures often reaching between 15 and 25°C.

History

Long before European explorers arrived, the Yukon was home to various First Nations. The region gained international fame during the Klondike Gold Rush. In 1898, the Yukon officially became a Canadian territory.

Austria

Austria covers an area of approximately 83,900 km² and has a population of about 9.2 million people. Compared to the Yukon, Austria is much smaller but far more densely populated.

Climate and Weather

Austria has a temperate Central European climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are generally much milder than in the Yukon, while summer temperatures can range from 20°C to well above 30°C depending on the region.

History

Austria's history stretches back many centuries. As the center of the Habsburg Monarchy, the country played a major role in shaping Central Europe. The modern Republic of Austria has existed since 1955, following the Austrian State Treaty and the restoration of full sovereignty.
