Olympics 26 Milano& Cortina
Fact 3: Working as a volunteer
When registering in order to get into the pool, it is not important that you have already helped at events before. You simply need luck. So far no one has been able to tell me according to which criteria the selection is made. And it does not matter to me, because I am happy about it and it has completely surprised me every single time so far that I am allowed to be part of it. For me it is not something to be taken for granted. When registering, you can choose which sport you want to be at on site and in which area you want to help. If you are accepted, you have to complete mandatory online training sessions. You can also, when they suggest a duty schedule, choose when and where you want to work, should they need you for more venues. They try very strongly to orient themselves towards you and to plan according to your wishes. I am also not aware of any age limit, as the oldest Paris Olympics volunteer was over 80 years old.
Fact 4: Languages and more
You absolutely do not have to be a native English speaker in order to be accepted. It would be great if you speak the local language well, because there are many people who do not want to speak English or cannot. This has happened to me so far both in Paris 2024 and in Trondheim 2025. You also get a pretty big chance to be part of a once in a lifetime moment. For athletes, spectators, and maybe also one or the other colleague. Who may never have dreamed of being part of the Olympics.
