Olympics Milano & Cortina 26

For me:

For many of my colleagues, Val di Fiemme is a real home game. Many live in the region or not far from the venues. I am one of the team members who has travelled the furthest.

After a somewhat bumpy start with English and getting back into the volunteer spirit, I have now settled in well. Especially in stressful moments, I still notice that the language can be challenging – but at the same time, that's good practice. This will certainly improve further during my upcoming work and travel year in Canada.

Transport:

Works well on the whole. It is reliable and – what I particularly like – there is even a dedicated volunteer shuttle. That is definitely not a given.

Food:

Doesn't taste bad. As we all know, tastes vary.

Team:

Unfortunately, I notice very strongly that I don't speak Italian. I generally understand work-related things when talking to my bosses because I can compensate for a lot with experience. However, when it comes to conversations outside of work, I can usually only listen and guess and not really participate. But I expected that in advance. Nevertheless, the team spirit is very good again.

My area – Event Service:

I work as an Event Service Member and am usually the first point of contact for visitors. I welcome guests, scan tickets and help them find their way around – whether it's the right entrance or the quickest route to their seats. Clear communication is especially important when it's busy, so that everything runs smoothly and calmly. You quickly realise that friendliness and a clear overview make a big difference here.

Encounters:

One nice moment was bumping into familiar faces: colleagues from the Partenkirchen Ski Club, colleagues from the Absam Nordic Team and a coach from Stams who taught me a lot about ski jumping in the 2022 coaching course. I hadn't expected to see so many familiar faces, so I was all the more delighted.
