Books? Part 1
This time, i am writing about which books to read to prepare for Canada, whether for travel or work and travel. These are all recommendations and not a MUST-READ, but they helped me a lot in my preparations.
1.“Let's see how our daughter helped us see the world through new eyes”
I'll gladly admit it: This is the only book on my list that deals with traveling the world. I want to focus on the part where they are in Canada. At the beginning, it's about the decision itself and what led to it. I wrote about this topic recently, so I could relate to it well.
The transition to Canada is then quite coherent. In the first month, they travel around Vancouver Island in a van. The author vividly describes what the Canadian wilderness feels like, especially when you're not used to it. And if you're one of the more fearful types, you can really empathize with that. I also think she describes everyday life in the van really well—and I say that even though I've never traveled in a van myself.
I totally recognized myself in the part about wwoofing. That strange feeling of working on strange farms and meeting people you hardly know – I'm curious to see how I'll feel about it myself. Here, too, everyday life is described in a really believable way. You get a good picture of what life on a farm can be like. And maybe while reading, you'll even wonder whether it would be something for you.
2.Work and Travel
This book provides a lot of information about what you need to apply. What steps to take and when. It's a good overview. However, I recommend joining the Work and Travel Canada group on Facebook during the visa application process and afterwards, as it is more up-to-date and other people may be experiencing similar problems.
