First Week!

There are moments when I still can’t really believe that I’m already here. Even after a few days, it still feels unreal. I’ve been preparing for this for almost a year after all. After five days, my sleep is finally recovering from the jet lag and I’m slowly getting closer to my normal sleeping schedule again — just a bit unlucky that daylight saving time changes again on Sunday.

I’ve been walking an insane amount in these first days. In five days I’ve done over 107,000 steps. Canadians are very friendly and helpful. I find it quite easy to start conversations with them.

What I learned this week

  1. The eTA that is required at the airport is already listed on your Letter of Introduction. You don’t need to apply for another one on some fake websites. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

  2. Have the address of your first accommodation ready. It’s very possible that you’ll be asked why you’re coming to Canada and whether you already have a place to stay.

  3. Bring a plastic folder for your most important documents.

  4. Without a Canadian phone number, not much works — so try to get one on your first day.

Highlights of the week that surprised me

  1. PWHL Vancouver Golden Eyes vs. Toronto Sceptres — my first hockey game ever. I already had goosebumps before the match even started.

  2. Flying in a seaplane. It was pretty cool to experience that myself.

  3. My first poutine at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. 💛
