I find it very difficult to make a packing list because I have absolutely no idea where I will be working during my year abroad or what I will be doing. Therefore, this list is purely for inspiration, to perhaps help answer some of the questions you may have.

What items should I take with me.

  • 1. Luggage

  • Large suitcase/backpack with large capacity

  • 60-liter backpack for hiking

  • 30-liter backpack for work

  • Fanny pack

  • Rain cover for the large backpack

  • 2. Important documents & essential items

  • Flight and train tickets

  • Passport (valid)

  • Visa confirmation + payment receipts

  • Proof of financial means for entry

  • Credit card

  • International health insurance

  • ID card

  • Passport photos

  • Printout of booking confirmations

  • Address of first accommodation

  • Emergency contacts & addresses of insurance companies, banks

  • Vaccination card

  • Hearing aids

  • Resume (on paper + digital)

  • Sturdy folders for certificates/applications

  • Optional: Diary, travel guide, dictionary app
