Thoughts before WHV Part 5
Working and living locally:
The big trip is about to begin, and we are approaching the important topics shortly before the start of the journey. These focus mainly on the destination country.
Where should I start? Am I more interested in the east or west coast?
This is a very difficult question that requires careful consideration. Each side has its own appeal as a starting point. And again, it depends very much on what interests you more.
What about public transport and carpooling? What apps are available for this?
How do I get from one place to another if I don't have the option of buying a car? Which buses and trains go where I want to go and how much will it cost me? Are there state tickets like the Klimaticket in Austria, or even just a weekly or daily ticket? How much money do I want or need to spend on this? Are there apps for finding potential carpooling opportunities to connect with other WHV travellers? Do I even dare to travel with strangers?
How can I meet new people?
Should interacting with others be important to me? Are there apps that make this possible, and how can I best manage it?
What kind of work do I want to do? What can I imagine myself doing?
Is there a job that I definitely want to do afterwards, and could travelling help me in any way? What activities would I not do at home, but would be interested in trying out? Are there certain skills I would like to improve? Which regions, cities, and fields of work do I already know before the trip that do not appeal to me?
What do I want to do outside? What do I definitely want to see?
Do I want to go hiking a lot or spend a lot of time by the water? What natural phenomena appeal to me that I would like to see? Are there any cafés or themed trails that I definitely want to see and visit? Do museums appeal to me enough that I would visit one of the many available?
How do you see it?
